Advancing the Frontier of Anterior & Lateral Spine Surgery

Anterior & Lateral Access

Spine Academy

Dedicated to surgical mastery, anatomical precision, and clinical excellence through specialized training.

Operative Tracks

Corridor-Specific Masterclasses

Hands-on cadaveric dissection stations with continuous fluoroscopic verification and individual faculty guidance across each subspecialty retroperitoneal access corridor.

ALIF Retroperitoneal

OLIF Pre-Psoas

Master tactile vascular mobilization, lumbosacral junction exposure, and anterior column reconstruction under high-volume consultant mentorship. Stations feature fresh-frozen anatomical specimens.

Access the pre-psoas corridor without split dissection to safeguard the lumbar plexus. Focus on vascular mobilization and multi-level fusion biology across degenerative pathology.

ALIF

Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion

Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (ALIF) provides direct, unobstructed midline access to the lower lumbar spine—most notably at L5–S1 and L4–L5—via a retroperitoneal corridor. By completely sparing the posterior paraspinal musculature and neural elements, ALIF allows for comprehensive discectomy, anterior longitudinal ligament (ALL) release, and thorough endplate preparation under direct visualization. This approach accommodates the largest possible interbody cage footprint with high hyperlordotic angles, making it the gold standard for restoring lower lumbar lordosis, achieving high fusion rates, and providing robust indirect foraminal decompression.

OLIF-ATP

Oblique Lateral Interbody Fusion

Oblique Lateral Interbody Fusion (OLIF) utilizes the natural retroperitoneal corridor between the psoas muscle and the great vessels to access the lumbar disc space from L2 to L5. By avoiding transpsoas muscle splitting, OLIF minimizes the risk of lumbar plexus and femoral nerve injury while enabling thorough disc space preparation. The placement of a large, lordotic interbody footprint across the apophyseal ring restores disc height, achieves robust indirect neural decompression, and corrects coronal and sagittal alignment with minimal posterior tissue disruption.

Operative Philosophy

Surgical trajectory dictates clinical outcome; mastering retroperitoneal anatomy is non-negotiable.

Tactile discipline and anatomical precision cannot be absorbed from surgical literature alone. Direct tissue handling and real-time fluoroscopic verification build operative certainty.

Welcoming Our International Faculty!

We are honoured to welcome Dr. med. Samir Smajic (Germany) as International Faculty for the ALASA Inaugural Masterclass on OLIF-ATP & ALIF.

Chief of Spine Surgery, Artemed Krankenhaus Düren, Germany. Dr. Smajic brings extensive expertise in minimally invasive spinal surgery, complex lumbar reconstruction, and anterior & lateral access techniques. He is also Senior Faculty at NSpine and a member of Medtronic’s Global Advisory Board.

Join us for an exceptional academic and hands-on learning experience.
